Moving Tips

There are lots of things that can help your move go smoothly, remember, ‘’preparation is key’’, especially if you are packing everything yourself.

Here are a few of the main pointers when moving. And packing

• Don’t leave packing to the last minute make sure you give yourself plenty of time in advance to pack your house gradually, from room to room
• Don’t scrimp on materials – use sturdy packing boxes, preferably new ones for heavier items. Ezi removals boxes are twice the strength of normal cardboard boxes.
• Fill large boxes with light bulky items and smaller boxes with heavy items or breakables
• Use ample protection lots of bubble wrap and paper. If protected correctly you should be able to drop a box from waist height and nothing should break.
• Make sure all cupboards and draws are taped shut, this makes it easier for our movers and avoids doors swinging open when carried.
• Tape garden tools together such as rakes, spades and forks also bed slats this makes them easy to carry.
• Stack boxes in piles of 3 this is the perfect height for the removal trollies and will again save time.
• If you’ve dismantled beds etc. keep the screws in a safe place or tape them to one of the bed pieces, .
• Fill one box with essential items you will need on the first night in your new home, and keep it close to hand.
• Keep all boxes for each room together and clearly labeled this makes it easier for the movers to allocate the boxes to the correct room.
• Prepare an overnight bag for everyone in the family, and make sure bed sheets and linen boxes are pulled aside and make the beds as soon as possible.
• Empty your fridge and freezer at the very last minute. Usually the fridge is the last thing on the truck and the first thing off, this way you can get all the food back in before it defrosts
• Have a clear plan of where you want your furniture to be placed in the new home, this will speed up the unloading process and save you time and money.
• Prepare a dinner the day before the move, the last thing you want is to be cooking when you’ve just moved house.
• Make it feel like home, get the beds made and sofas into position and perhaps your favorite incense candle burning then relax.
